Program W170212 consists of the following course:

Emergency Medical Technician - Course EMS0110 (300 hours) – The didactic course component is an introduction to the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required in emergency medical care situations, and is taught in accordance with the latest National EMS Education Standards for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Included is information concerning basic structure and function of body systems and recent state of the art procedures required of the emergency medical technician.

Laboratory practice in emergency procedures for life-threatening disease, accident, or illness is closely supervised to foster confidence in the student's abilities to apply theory in a laboratory setting. Techniques for patient assessment, evaluation and treatment are practiced in an assessment-based format in a laboratory setting.

Personal learning enrichment activity is a required, instructor-led opportunity for students to strengthen individualized areas of learning. This course component allows students to get targeted reinforcement of course material by utilizing instructional time to enhance cognitive reasoning and/or psychomotor skills.

Hospital activity shall include a minimum of 36 hours of supervised clinical activity, including emergency department rotations.  Clinical activity shall include appropriate patient assessment skills, intervention and documentation relevant to each clinical rotation.  Acquired skill competencies are essential to the proper functioning of the EMS student.

Field Internship shall include a minimum of 48 hours. Field internship shall include a competency-based program to assure appropriate prehospital assessment and management of medical and trauma patients, as well as associated manual skills.  The patient care component shall include minimum competencies in patient assessment, airway management and ventilation, trauma and medical emergencies.

Distance Education: Not Available at this time. 

Industry Certification:  Upon completion of this course, students will be able to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification exam.  This qualifies individuals for certification as an NREMT and State of Florida EMT.

Minimum Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirement:  80%

Minimum Attendance Requirement:  90%
