Performing Arts - Elementary Curriculum

  • Pinellas County Performing Arts offers a rich variety of standards-based curriculum which is aligned with Florida’s Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS).   This curriculum drives courses which provide multiple opportunities for students to be successful in the performing arts and to fully appreciate the benefit of an aesthetic experience through performance and performing arts pedagogy.  Expert curriculum writers have used the overarching NGSS Standards to identify specific target goals for each content area.  Teachers use these standard-based “Key Learnings” to create sequences of planned experiences where students practice and achieve proficiency in the theory and skills necessary to be successful in their chosen performing arts content area.

In Pinellas County, all students in grades K-5 receive music instruction once a week as part of their regular weekly schedule. In addition, students have the option of taking chorus as a second music class.  After-school music ensembles are also available in some schools.  These ensembles include but are not limited to band, guitar, world drumming, and Orff ensembles.  All Performing Arts teachers are state licensed and certified to teach the classes they are assigned.
