• Athletic Statement of Purpose and Expectations for Performance

    Largo High School believes that our athletic programs exist for the purpose of helping our young men and women meet the high expectations of the Pinellas County Schools' Mission Statement and Largo High School’s Vision of being Learners and Leaders. For these reasons, we have established the following codes and expectations for our athletes.

    Student-Athletes at Largo High School will:

     Accept and understand the responsibility and privilege of representing their school and community  Demonstrate active involvement in their sport and acquire the basic athletic skills and essentials of teamwork necessary for competition.

     Demonstrate:

     Demonstrate pride in themselves, their community, their school, and their team.

     Maintain athletic eligibility in accordance with the FHSAA and Largo High School requirements.

    Specific expectations:

    • Attendance –
      • Student athletes arrive on time for class.  11 tardies in 9 weeks (about 2 months) will result in loss of playing time.  Additional tardies will increase this loss.
      • Student athletes attend every period, every day.  They do not skip classes.  Any student athlete present for less than ½ their class periods on game day will not be able to participate in that game or match.
    • Behavior -
      • Student athletes are leaders on campus.  They do not receive referrals.  Referrals which result in ISS/ABS/OSS will result in loss of one practice and one game.
      • Student athletes are leaders in the community and held accountable.
      • Any SESIR level offense, including drug possession, vape possession, and/or fighting, that results in Out of School Suspension, may result in a parent conference to discuss possible dismissal from sports for that season.
      • Arrests ON/OFF Campus will result in a parent conference to discuss possible dismissal from sports for that season. immediate dismissal from program for the entire season.
    • Social Media –
      • Student athletes will not use social media to disrupt the learning environment or to disparage the school, team, or coach. This includes the use of inappropriate language and/or gestures while wearing LHS apparel.
    • Athlete Sharing –
      • The sport that is in season is your priority.  If you quit a sport in season, you will not be allowed to participate with a different sport until the season of the sport you quit has ended.
    • PACKER PRIDE – Our athletes represent Largo High whenever they are in uniform.  This holds them to a higher standard.  Athletes not conducting themselves in a manner fitting this elite opportunity will be held accountable as such.
    • Coaches may also have additional expectations and policies beyond these schoolwide athletics expectations. Athletes will be held accountable for those expectations as well.
