Japan Culture Club
-
Japan Culture Club began in 2021 at Largo Middle IB World School with the intention to promote the learning and understanding of Japanese culture inspired by the current trends of the youth. The goal of the club is to educate and create open-minded scholars who will become global-minded citizens. The club focuses on Japanese language, Culture, Cuisine, Art, History, and connecting with Japanese people.
Japan Culture Club also proudly promotes a summer study abroad program from Clearwater Sister Cities. This program is open countywide to all middle school students in Pinellas County. During this summer program, selected students represent Clearwater as Young Ambassadors for two weeks in Japan. In Japan, Young Ambassadors will tour different cities, attend a Japanese school, and stay with a Japanese family. It’s a life-changing experience that we hope some kids from Largo Middle IB World School will get the chance to participate in.
For that reason, we have started accepting donations to create a scholarship to provide students with a lower barrier of entry if they are successful when applying for the program. The donations to help build this scholarship will help any student who needs financial assistance. Use the QR Code below to donate.
Currently, Japan Culture Club is supervised by the Art Instructor, Mr. Powell. Every week we have Largo High School students who volunteer who teach lessons in Japanese Language and Culture. We hope to expand our club to include Pen Pal with Japanese students.
