In the Classroom: On the Stage
The ELHS Theatre Program provides a strong foundation for students interested in acting, directing, stage management, lighting and sound, props, and makeup/hair design. We are committed to supporting and encouraging student leadership in every aspect of theatre.
Under the professional artistic direction of Dr. Terri Power, our program continues to grow, with new classes and opportunities constantly being added. Dr. Power brings over 30 years of experience as a coach, teacher, actor, author, and producer. She has worked and taught in Los Angeles, New York, and the UK under major entertainment contracts including Equity, SAG/AFTRA, AGVA, and IATSE. Her impressive career includes collaborations with Disney, Universal Studios, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London. Dr. Power holds multiple degrees in Theatre and Drama from UCLA and the University of Exeter, where she earned her PhD in 2010.
For the 2025-2026 school year, we are excited to introduce “Directing and Stage Management” as part of our growing list of theatre courses at East Lake!
Beyond the Classroom: Expanding Theatre Opportunities
Our students don’t just learn theatre during school hours—they have many exciting after-school opportunities to develop their craft, earn volunteer hours, and gain real-world experience in the industry. These include:
• Professional productions throughout the year with roles in acting, production, stage management, and crew
• Weekly Improv Club – Unleash creativity and quick-thinking skills and spring performance to showcase group abilities.
• Monthly Drama Club – Engage in theatre activities and community-building events.
• Induction into Troupe 4356, our ELHS Theatre Association, linked to the International Thespian Society—a prestigious lifetime honor for dedicated students.
Each of these programs offers leadership opportunities, allowing students to serve on boards, build their theatre resumes, and gain valuable experience for future academic and professional endeavors.
Parents: Get Involved!
Parents are highly encouraged to support our very active Troupe 4356 Booster Club! We host monthly meetings and help with:
• Fundraising efforts to support our talented students
• Level II volunteering for after-school programs
• Assisting with productions and working concessions during shows
Your involvement enhances the student experience and helps our program continue to grow!
