The CENTER FOR LITERACY  INNOVATION at Elisa Nelson Elementary School, provides a systematic, multisensory, structured approach to literacy instruction. Students will have opportunities for remediation in reading, writing and math.

Curriculum & Instruction: In addition to district curriculum & resources, the Center for Literacy Innovation teachers are highly trained experts in delivering customized reading interventions using a research-based program and strategies in whole group, small group, and one-one settings.  Student achievement is closely monitored and instructional strategies are adapted regularly to suit the on-going growth in reading and writing.

Classroom Environment: The Center for Literacy Innovation teachers receive specialized training in creating a supportive and nurturing classroom environment that fosters a growth mindset and empowers learners to take charge of their own learning. Students invite parents into their classrooms for student-led conferences to share their academic goals and progress. Teachers, school counselor and other support staff work collaboratively with parents/guardians for the social emotional development of each child to ensure increased self-confidence and a desire to grow and learn.

Schoolwide Enrichment Model : Students in this program also participate in the research-based Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM) clusters. The SEM focuses on enrichment for all students through high levels of engagement and the use of enjoyable and challenging learning experiences that are constructed around students’ interests, learning styles, and preferred modes of expression.

Blazer Traits: The Blazer Traits are a set of ten personal traits we aim to develop in all Elisa Nelson Elementary students. We believe that our students will actively lead their own path towards lifelong learning and responsible citizenship. In doing so the Blazer Traits will guide their path to success.
