Media and Technology

  • Printed books still play an important role in supporting learners, but digital technologies now offer additional pathways to learning. Students and teachers no longer need a library simply for accessing books. Instead, they require a place that encourages hands-on and collaborative learning opportunities.  In other words, instead of merely being an archive of information, 21st century libraries are becoming a place where students can interact with content, utilize technology, construct knowledge through a variety of activities.

Part of becoming a 21st century library is the integration of Makerspace.  This is a place in which people with shared interests, especially in computing or technology, can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge.  We have several makerspace activities that integrate using and understanding circuits, computer programing and construction.  We will continue to build our Makerspace and integrate it into the curriculum for real world learning.

Ponce de Leon is fortunate to have access to a variety of technology tools and students in grades 1-5 will be part of the district's 1 to 1 computer initiative.
