  • A message from San Jose's guidance counselor, Mrs. Gosart:

    Mrs. Maria Gosart, San Jose Elementary School Counselor

    Welcome to the San Jose School Counselor page! Every student deserves a school counselor, and that person is me, Mrs. Gosart. In summer 2021, I moved from chilly Pennsylvania to Pinellas County and became the school counselor at San Jose. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Wilkes University and later went on to receive my Master of Science degree in school counseling from the University of Scranton.

    As the school counselor at San Jose, I am involved with many things that help your student enjoy their time here. I greet the students each morning at breakfast, I am on the child study team (CST), coordinate the pack – a – snack program, conduct classroom guidance lessons, provide short - term individual counseling, conduct small group counseling,  coordinate the multicultural club (P-MAC), coordinate student of the month, am a member of the school based leadership team (SBLT), am the 504 plan coordinator, a member of the positive behavioral support team (PBS), a member of the operations team, and supervise walk and talk.

    I focus my counseling by taking a person- centered approach. Person -centered theory focuses on the person being the center of their world. The person is treated as a person first, and is not labeled based on their issue, diagnosis, or condition. I believe that each person has the capacity for personal growth and change. I believe in unconditional positive regard, empathetic understanding, and encouraging the person to be their genuine self.

    A message about middle school articulation

    San Jose 5th grade families, it is the time to start thinking about your student leaving our beautiful school and moving onto new adventures in middle school. Please see the power points based on your student’s zoned school. Our zoned students typically move onto Palm Harbor Middle School or Dunedin Highland Middle School.

    Please also view your student’s middle school course request sheet.  These forms can also be given directly to the middle school during the expo night. It is important that you speak with your student about their course choices, as there are lots of options available.

    We highly encourage students and their families to attend their future middle school’s expo night. This will be the best time to receive information and ask questions about the middle school experience. Please view the Expo nights schedule to view dates for your student’s future school.

    ABC bucks/School store

    Here at San Jose, students are given recognition and acknowledgement in the form of ABC bucks. Students are able to use their ABC bucks at our school store to purchase items. Students here at San Jose are given reinforcement such as ABC bucks to purchase items at the school store when they are seen practicing good behavior. Students are encouraged to follow the rules and show service to the school, community and their country. Students are given praise by adults when they are seen being honest as well and understand the rules and laws that need to be followed in our community.

    What is bullying?

    Bullying is systematically and chronically inflicting physical hurt or psychological distress on one or more students or employees and may involve but is not limited to teasing; social exclusion; threat; intimidation; stalking; including cyber stalking; physical violence; theft; sexual, religious, or racial harassment; public humiliation; and destruction of property.
