Career and technical certificate students must be tested within the first six weeks of program enrollment.

The Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) is an instrument used to process new applicants. This is a standardized academic achievement test measuring achievement in mathematics and communication. The primary purpose of this test is for successful placement, student progression, and completion of state-mandated exit requirements.

Students must meet state literacy requirements for computation (mathematics) and communication (reading/language arts), as well as program-specific requirements, in order to receive either a certificate of program completion or terminal completion points.

Continuing workforce education students, apprentices, and students enrolled in programs of less than 600 hours are not required to take placement tests.

Students interested in enrolling in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes must take the CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System) before being placed.
