AIR - Artist-In-Residence: Ms. Yamamoto!
Arts Integration focus: Visual Arts and Mathematics
Grades: 3rd and 4th
Ms. Kuniko Yamamoto, a native of Japan, was with us for one week working with students. Her specialty is Origami and students use origami to learn more about fractions and geometry. Origami is the art of folding paper and students use it to increase their understanding of parts to a whole, as in fractions, and also create shapes and discover angles of different artistic creations. Math vocabulary was enhanced and co-teaching occurred with our artist and our wonderful math coach, Mrs. Santana-Murphy!

Ms.Dobs third grade class (below) was working on inclusive and exclusive grouping with Mr. Sean Layne. This is a theatrical strategy under cooperative learning. Students then progressed to mathematical equations using their understanding of cooperative groups.
