    Dr. LaShawn Proctor, Principal

    Greetings,

Welcome to Bay Point Elementary Magnet School, home of the Panthers! My name is Dr. LaShawn Proctor and it is with Panther Pride that I introduce myself as the school principal! I am thrilled to serve a school community inspired and motivated by greatness. Our vision is 100% student success and we will work towards that by providing all scholars with meaningful and rich educational experiences.

I am passionate about education. I have served as Assistant Principal, Instructional Staff Developer, and Teacher, right here at Bay Point Elementary Magnet. I earned a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University, a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Saint Leo University and a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida.

As we work diligently towards an “A” it is my hope that we will work together to provide scholars with the best opportunities in preparing them to master challenges placed in their path. It is my goal to instill within each scholar the essential principles of pride, respect and responsibility so that they will become productive members in society. It is essential that your child is in attendance daily, arrives on time, and is prepared for learning.

As principal, I wholeheartedly welcome your conversation and positive input. Let us always keep our scholars as the primary focus of our work. I look forward to connecting with you and celebrating our collective successes during the school year.

    Educationally Yours,

    Dr. Proctor

    Mrs. Brooke Johannessen, Assistant Principal

I am excited and honored to be the Assistant Principal at Bay Point Elementary Magnet School!  I graduated from the University of Florida with both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees- Go Gators!  Prior to coming here, I was a Literacy Coach for six years.  I have also taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades, facilitated district trainings, and written ELA curriculum.  These experiences have helped shape me into the instructional leader I am today.  I am a product of Pinellas County Schools and believe this is the best place to live and work.

I bring with me a deep commitment to innovation and growth.  I will work collaboratively with our staff, scholars, and families to create a safe learning environment where every learner can flourish.  Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”  Here at Bay Point, we are producing change makers every day through our robust curriculum integrating technology, science, foreign language and literacy.  This is a true partnership, so I welcome your input and ideas.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out.  Go Panthers!
