Student Achievement Awards Programs

    Joseph L. Carwise Achievement Award- students in Pinellas are selected by their administrator, teachers, or counselor to receive the Joseph L. Carwise Achievement Award. This award is given to students who have demonstrated academic excellence throughout the year. Community organizations and businesses donate thousands of dollars worth of scholarships which are awarded to seniors who apply through the Pinellas Education Foundation.
     
     
    Maria Edmonds Hispanic Achievment Awards- The event honors the legacy of Maria Edmonds, a dedicated advocate for women, children and Hispanics. Mrs. Edmonds passed away in 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. Until her retirement, she was Associate Provost at St. Petersburg College, where she had a 28-year career. She also served as a governor-appointed member of the Juvenile Welfare Board and chairperson of the Hispanic Leadership Committee.  Businesses throughout Pinellas come together to present several scholarships to seniors with high academic performance. 
     
     
    Vryle Davis Achievement Award- students in south Pinellas County are selected by their administrator, teachers, or counselor to receive this award, which honors the late Vyrle Davis, a 40-year Pinellas County educator. He began his career in 1960 at 16th Street Elementary and Junior High, which is now John Hopkins Middle School. During his career, Davis served as an assistant principal at Gibbs High School and principal at St. Petersburg High School. In 1986, Davis was named the county’s first African American area superintendent. He remained in that role until he retired in 1995.
