Principal: Melissa Athanson

I am extremely proud to serve as the principal at Madeira Beach Fundamental K-8. Our fundamental program rests on a partnership established between our families, students, staff and the community. We foster a school environment that allows students to have a consistent pathway from elementary through middle school, building continuity in expectations, education, and environment. Our teachers are committed to providing  rigorous learning in engaging and innovative classrooms. Our students reach their highest potential when they are engaged in learning with an inquiry-based approach, meaning they learn to ask the questions that are important to their learning. These commitments help us achieve our vision of 100% student success.

I look forward to working collaboratively with the Manta Ray community, staff, and scholars to make the 2025-2026 school year an amazing and productive year.

I’m honored to serve as one of the assistant principals at Madeira Beach Fundamental. Our school continues to thrive, earning an A grade for the 2024–2025 school year—a reflection of our shared commitment to excellence.

Madeira Beach Fundamental is known for its high academic standards, strong parental involvement, and active community support. We believe in high levels of learning for all students, and we work daily to ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed.

I’m dedicated to building on our successes by focusing on student achievement and maintaining a safe, supportive learning environment. Partnership with families is key, and I encourage you to reach out anytime with questions, concerns, or ideas whether to your child’s teacher, the front office, or directly to me.

Assistant Principal 6-8: Carolyn Altenore

Carolyn Altenore is an Assistant Principal of Madeira Beach Fundamental K-8. Her many years in education began with Pinellas County Schools. She is committed to creating a safe, supportive, and thriving learning community. Education is her passion, and she is proud of her journey for every student, every day. Go Gators!
