PTC-CLW springs forward with NTHS

Family members and friends packed in the culinary arts building on the Clearwater campus of Pinellas Technical College (PTC-CLW) to watch their loved ones get inducted into the Clearwater Chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) on Wednesday, March 4.
NTHS is the highest national award for excellence in career technical education. It honors the achievements of top CTE students, provides scholarships to encourage the pursuit of higher education, and cultivates excellence in today’s highly competitive, skilled workforce.

explained the goals and colors of the organization.Having NTHS membership on a resume or job application is a tangible sign of success. It shows employers that the student went above and beyond.
“This is something significant that is a great resume builder and also makes a significant difference in their futures,” said Dr. Jake Prokop, Clearwater campus director.

He looks to see not only the applicant’s technical qualifications but also what organizations they belong to, such as NTHS or SkillsUSA that helps them build character and foster a strong work ethic.
NTHS alum Yvonne Rogers was hired by Prokop after graduating from the Administrative Office Specialist program. She took time out of her busy bookkeeping schedule to say a few words to the inductees.

for NTHS scholarships.“This stands out to your employer as being a highly distinguished characteristic on your application,” she said, urging them to visit the NTHS website and apply for a scholarship.
Each year, NTHS awards more than $225,000 in scholarships, helping current members and alumni continue their education and secure better jobs with higher salaries.

Honor Society pledge.To join NTHS, a student must be recommended by their instructor. The student’s application is then reviewed for consideration into the NTHS Clearwater Chapter.
