About CAP

CAP is the volunteer, nonprofit auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. Its three missions are to develop its cadets, educate Americans on the importance of aviation and space, and perform life-saving, humanitarian missions.

Since Civil Air Patrol’s formation during the earliest days of World War II, this vigilant organization of citizen Airmen has been committed to service to America. Founded on Dec. 1, 1941, to mobilize the nation's civilian aviation resources for national defense service, CAP has evolved into a premier public service organization that still carries out emergency service missions when needed — in the air and on the ground.

The Azalea Middle School Cadet Squadron

At the AMS Cadet Squadron you can expect to be assigned to a Cadet Great Start Element where your element leader will be charged with assisting you to learn everything you need to progress smoothly through your first promotion.

The program is centered around Aerospace and STEM Education while exposing the Cadets to Character Development inspired by the Civil Air Patrol's Core Values for Cadets.  In addition to Character Development, Cadets will also learn Safety, and will partake in a weekly Fitness Program.  Cadets can progress through their first three promotions without having to achieve the National Fitness Standards.  Cadet leaders will help all Cadets reach their required goals.

We are working hard toward the goal of ensuring that all new Cadets have the opportunity to take part in an Orientation Flight in a real airplane with a CAP Pilot.

Once a new Cadet has their ABU uniform conforming to CAPR 39-1 they will be expected to wear it once a week throughout their entire day at school.  Wearing the uniform teaches Cadets to have and show respect for themselves and their unit. Our Civil Air Patrol Uniforms are official uniforms approved by the United States Air Force.  We are privileged to be allowed to wear these uniforms to represent our affiliation as the official auxiliary and total force partner of the United States Air Force.  Therefore, our uniforms and the way in which we wear them must always conform to regulation CAPR 39-1.

We require Cadets to attend at least one Saturday meeting or other squadron event each month, and we have two volunteer opportunities (One in first semester, and one in second semester) to work with our squadron to help out in our communities each year.

Cost of Uniforms

 It was requested that we post the general cost of the CAP Uniforms here.  The total costs represented below were checked on Vanguard in April 2023.  These costs were totaled on the presumption that all elements of the uniform were purchased through Vanguard.  Since some elements of the uniform can be purchased cheeper through other means, these costs represent the highest amount that you could currently pay for these uniforms.  Parents must also consider that Cadets are eligible to receive the Curry Voucher at the time of their first promotion.  Currently this gives you $175.00 toward the cost of the Blues Uniform.  In addition, when you receive the voucher, Vanguard usually provides a discount coupon as well which further reduces your costs at that time.
