2025-2026 9th Grade Course Selection Sheet
Additional information from the ELHS School Counselor team that will help with completing the course request sheet:
- English, Math, and Science – current class enrollment, grades, and test scores will help determine enrollment in freshmen English, math, and science classes.
- Social Studies – we do not have a social studies course required for freshman. However, the list on our sheet are some great options if they would like to start getting into that high school mindset. An excellent place for freshmen to start is AP Human Geography, our full year version of AP US Government, or AP European History, all extremely accessible Advanced Placement courses that we offer at East Lake High School.
- Business Academy – Digital Information Technology (DIT) will be the level 1 class for each of our different pathways within the Business Academy. Check out the Curriculum Guide to check out the different program pathways available to your student this year (if they already took DIT in middle school) or next.
- Engineering Academy – Students accepted must take Applied Engineering 1 and also ONE other Engineering Elective – Artificial Intelligence 1 (Robotics) OR our Game & Simulation through our Digital Information Technology course (DIT). This year, DIT will serve as the level 1 course for the Game & Sim pathway.
- Biomedical Science Academy – It is not an application program so students can just choose Principles of Biomedical Sciences (freshmen level course) to join Biomed.
- Visual Arts and Performing Arts Academy – We have a wide range of program pathways in both our visual arts and performing arts programs. Check out our Curriculum Guide for details on each of these excellent programs.
- AVID – This is a great program to support students in preparation for college, along with supports for all classes throughout high school. Students must complete the district application for AVID which you can find on our website and in the Curriculum Guide/Course Request sheets attached to the email.
- World Language – two years minimum of the SAME LANGUAGE is required for university admissions and Bright Futures Scholarships, as long as those courses count as high school courses. Many universities do want to see more than just the two years, so if your student began taking a world language prior to high school, it’s a great idea to continue that work in high school.
