The mathematics department at Seminole High School is committed to teaching, encouraging and improving the academic level of our students. With the state of Florida implementing End of Course testing, we are working to help all students achieve passing scores.
Students are required to take four years of high school math in order to meet graduation requirements. Students are advised to take Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 and one more math class in order to meet the basic requirements of entrance to a college or university or technical school. Advanced students have the opportunity to take honors classes in Geometry and Algebra 2 and then move on to Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus or AP Statistics. Dual Enrollment is also offered at Seminole High School. College Algebra, Pre-Calculus with Algebra, Trigonometry, and Calculus 1 are also offered, especially as part of the classes offered for the Center for Educational Excellence. Liberal Arts, Advanced Topics, Analysis of Functions, and Mathematics for College Readiness are also offered as math courses that can improve students’ math knowledge and prepare them for higher math. The members of the mathematics department have a deep commitment to SHS as evidenced by their involvement in Academic Team, Student Government, and many other clubs. Each teacher wants to maintain an open line of communication with both students and parents. Parents have the opportunity to use Portal to check their child’s grades and absences. If there is a problem, the department requests they contact the guidance office and schedule an appointment to discuss their student’s progress.
