• The Chorus and Theatre Department have been BUSY and before I get into all of that, I would like to thank all of you for being so flexible and understanding with these students. It is not typical for students to have so many epic performance opportunities in one year, let alone 3 weeks, and you guys are a huge part of making this possible for them. The students in the DHS Chorus and Theatre programs are like no other and I don't know how they manage to pull it all off!

Freaky Friday the Musical was a huge success. Broadway Star of the Future Critics attended and the cast and crew walked away with 12 nominations and 8 winners from those nominations. Pair this with the 10 nominations from Junie B Jones the Musical earlier this year (the day our campus was flooded with small children) and the program ends the year with 22 nominations and 12 winners. This is VERY exciting!

Also, we had two DHS students get accepted into the Broadway Summer Institute Program in New York City this summer. Chloe Stertz and Hollis Rutkoski are currently training for an intensive Broadway workshop this summer with 8 other students from Pinellas County!

Our Chorus Department had 14 out of 17 events qualify for state competition this past February and March and we took 12 of these events to State Competition in Jacksonville. All of the students walked away with "Superior" (the highest possible score) and 3 of these events walked away with "Superior with Distinction" (the highest possible score plus special recognition and advanced achievement). Superior with Distinction: Grace McLarty, Aubrey Indorf, Falconaires Ensemble - Video included:  https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1EQVmQrGFPMFalroa_80qqeVN5gIzNu5o?usp=sharing
If that is not enough, we were the only school to walk away with straight superior scores at State Solo and Ensemble. Go Falcons!

To top it all off, the DHS Chorus Department travelled to Gatlinburg, TN where we performed at Dollywood among other fun activities. This was the first out of state trip the department has taken in 10 years and it also was successful and lots of fun!

All that to say, we have been busy but representing Dunedin High School with pride and excellence. If you see any student who has been a part of these activities, pass along a big congratulations for not only performing with excellence, but surviving the craziness 🙂

This last weekend, the DHS Concert Chorus travelled to Gatlinburg, TN to perform at Dollywood. The performance was a crowd-favorite and we had a great time exploring TN together.

DHS students are so awesome - Go Falcons!

Yesterday, our Beginning Chorus and our Women's Chorus attended their Music Performance Assessments and not only earned top scores, but our Women's Chorus also walked away with a distinction award! The kids performed wonderfully and represented Dunedin with great pride and enthusiasm.

Our state-ranked One-Act recently found out that we not only placed first in the district, but are ranked in the top 5 for the state! This means that we will get to perform at Morsani Hall (the BIG Broadway hall at the Straz). This is very exciting news and no easy feat!

Finally, we open our play, Peter/Wendy tomorrow night. The young and energetic cast is exciting to perform for their audiences tomorrow and Friday night. Tickets are cash sales only and will be sold at the door. Shows start at 7pm and end at 8:30pm with no intermission. Concessions will be sold prior to the show.

On Saturday, January 27th, our vocal department attended FVA Solo and Ensemble at PCCA Gibbs. As a department, we brought 17 events and of the 17, 12 events qualified for state, 9 events earned straight superior ratings (highest rating possible), and 6 events were selected as critic's choice honorees (judge's favorite performances for their block). Overall, DHS did a GREAT job and the students represented our school very well.

Dunedin High School had 30 students audition for the Pinellas All-County Chorus and the results are in....we have 27 students in the All-County Choruses, which means we not only have a 90% acceptance rate, but again have the most students represented of all schools in Pinellas County!

    Falcons are killing it 🙂

Congratulate these kids if you see them!

On September 12, 2023, 12 of our DHS students participated in the first round of Florida All-State Auditions - a written musicianship exam. DHS earned a 100% pass rate and all students were sent on to the second round of auditions - sight-singing (singing music you have never seen before on the spot!)

Of the 12, 10 students passed round 2 and will continue onto round 3 in a few weeks. We would like to give a very very VERY special shoutout to Abigail Backus who earned a perfect score in both rounds 1 and 2.
