2023 Pinellas County Schools SRO of the Year
According to Pinellas County Police Chief Luke Williams, it is nearly impossible to narrow down the 170 officers/monitors to just three award winners at the end of each school year.
But this year was particularly difficult.
“There are hundreds of persons whose task it is to focus on the safety of our students and staff on a daily basis,” Williams said of the school resource officers, campus activities monitors and school safety officers. “Although there are only three categories awarded, there are many just as deserving of the recognition.”
At its May 9 meeting, the Pinellas County School Board recognized Anthony “Shawn” Minton, Omar Davis and Deputy Robert Livernois.
Deputy Livernois, who was named the School Resource Officer/Pinellas County Schools Deputy of the Year, has built relationships with the students and staff at Hollins High School and has created an atmosphere of communication and trust on campus.

2023-24 Pinellas County Schools Assistant Principal of the Year
Mrs. Candice Metcalf is an accomplished educator and administrator with a passion for fostering student success and creating a positive learning environment. After earning her Bachelor's degree at UCF, she furthered her education by obtaining a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of West Florida. With a strong belief in continued education, she pursued a Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of West Florida, solidifying her expertise in education and leadership.

2023 Florida Robotics State Champions
The Hollins High School Robotics Team, Nerdvana is headed to Houston from April 19-22 to compete against 192 teams from across the U.S and the world in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Championship.
Last month, the team qualified for the international competition by taking first place in the Winning Alliance in Florida’s FIRST Tech Challenge for Inspiration in Winter Haven, Florida. The Hollins High School students competed against 57 teams from across the state. Each season, FIRST releases a game that requires students to design, build and program a robot that can complete different tasks in both driver-controlled and driverless autonomous mode.
“We couldn’t be more excited to see these students who have put in so much time and effort get to experience something they will remember for a lifetime,” said Christine Cook, environmental science teacher and Robotics Club sponsor at Hollins.
