Get Involved with Jamerson’s School Advisory Council (SAC)
The School Advisory Council (SAC) is an essential part of our Jamerson community. Each Florida school is required by law to have an SAC, composed of a balanced group of stakeholders, including the principal, parents, teachers, students, administrators, support staff, and community members. The goal of SAC is to work together to improve the educational experience for all students.
What is SAC?
Purpose: The primary purpose of the SAC is to assist in the development and evaluation of the school improvement plan and support the principal in creating the annual school budget.
Funding: SAC is allocated funds that are used at the council’s discretion. These funds can support programs or projects that align with the school improvement plan, but cannot be used for capital improvements. The funding is controlled by the SAC, not the principal or school district staff.
3 Reasons to Get Involved in SAC
- Make a Difference: By participating, you’ll have a direct influence on how the school improves and where funds are allocated.
- Representation: SAC is designed to reflect the diversity of our Jamerson Community. Your voice as a parent or community member is crucial in ensuring all perspectives are represented.
- Build Community/Connect: SAC meetings are excellent opportunities to get to know the school teachers/staff and connect with other engaged parents."
Why I SAC:
“SAC helps me understand how the school works behind the scenes; where our strengths lie, what challenges we face, and how we can come together to create the best learning environment for our kids.
It’s also a wonderful opportunity to get to know teachers, school administrators, and fellow parents. It’s such a friendly and welcoming community!”
- Dave Himmelfarb, Jamerson Parent, SAC Chair (2025-2026)
“Being a part of the SAC has been an incredibly rewarding experience. It’s given me a unique insight into the inner workings of our school and the decisions that shape our children's education. I’ve had the opportunity to ask questions, voice my concerns, and truly connect with other Jamerson community members.
I encourage others to get involved because it’s a chance to make a real difference while building meaningful relationships within our Jamerson community. Whether you're interested in shaping the school’s direction or just want to understand the processes behind the scenes, SAC is the perfect place to do both.”
- Joann Burnett, Jamerson Parent, SAC Recording Secretary (2025-2026)
“As a parent of Douglas L. Jamerson, I have attended SAC meeting as voting member and then joined the board. I have also attended SAC meeting when my now middle school twins were 3 years old and attended another school. I find SAC an important place to learn about the school improvement plan, school grade and how it all works. I learned about different places to check on my child's progress from both schools SAC meetings. It is a place to be able to ask question and get answers from admin and teachers and have a better understanding of the workings of the school itself. It also gave me a place to work with my child's teacher and my child with my better understand of what they are doing. It is an important meeting several times over the school year that I add into my schedule to attend!!”-Jessica Marinari-Bishop, PTA President (2025-2026), Jamerson Parent, Jamerson Family & Community Liaison
“Over the past eight years SAC has given me insight and knowledge into DLJ I would have never found anywhere else. It is truly a place to hear directly from school leadership and work in collaboration to keep our school heading in a positive direction and growth model.
I would highly encourage active participation in SAC for all DLJ families who want to gain a better understanding of their child’s school and help shape its future.”
