Advanced Placement (AP)

  • Pinellas County high schools are proud to offer a wide variety of Advanced Placement (AP) courses in our high schools. AP courses are rigorous college level courses offered in high school through the College Board’s Advanced Placement program. Students with a strong work ethic and a desire to engage in challenging courses are encouraged to request the AP courses that best meet their talents and interests.

Every student in Pinellas County Schools that takes an AP course will also take the national AP Exam at no charge. Colleges and universities often award college credit for AP exam scores of 3, 4, or 5 on a scale of 1 through 5. Each college has varying standards for scores as well as what type of credit they will award for a course.  For further information regarding college credits awarded based on AP exam scores, please review the Florida State University System (SUS) Credit by Exam Equivalencies document or visit the specific website for the University of your choosing.

Go to apstudents.collegeboard.org to create a Username and Password on College Board (if you don't have one already) in order to sign in to AP Classroom to view all AP resources, including AP Daily Videos.  All student taking an AP class will be required to do this.

If the AP Course you would like to take is not available at your school, ask your counselor about taking the course on Pinellas Virtual School.  They use the FLVS curriculum, but provide you with a local teacher who may be available to schedule in person assistance at a PCS site.

Please note:  AP Exams are ordered in November.  While students are not charged to sit for exam, they are responsible for cancellation fees ($40 per exam) that result from dropping an AP course after exams are ordered and/or the fees charged if they do not sit for the exam ($94 for most exams and $142 for an AP Seminar or AP Research exam).
