Legal Services

  • The School Board of Pinellas County and its Administration are served by two separate legal offices – the School Board Attorney’s office and the Staff Attorney’s office.

The School Board Attorney is hired directly by and reports to the School Board. The School Board Attorney represents the School Board in all legal matters and is general counsel to the Administration, providing proactive legal advice to the School Board and Administration on all matters affecting the operations of the school system. The School Board Attorney advises the School Board at all School Board meetings, including quasi-judicial hearings in front of the School Board, such as employee and student discipline hearings. The School Board Attorney’s office consists of the School Board Attorney, an Assistant School Board Attorney, a Legal Assistant and a Legal Clerk.

The Staff Attorney is recommended for hire by and reports to the Superintendent. The Staff Attorney provides proactive legal advice and counsel to the Superintendent, District-level and school-based administrators on matters involving employment and labor law. The Staff Attorney represents the Superintendent in all quasi-judicial hearings in front of the School Board. The Staff Attorney’s office consists of the Staff Attorney and a Legal Assistant.
