Battle of the Books and Literacy Fairs

  • Battle of the Books

The Battle of the Books is a fun way to get students to read a variety of books and learn to comprehend what they are reading. It is one of our district enrichment programs related to reading literacy.

This program is introduced to teachers and students in grades 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12 through the school Library Media program. Students who wish to participate have several months to read and quiz each other on what they have read. Qualifying tests are given during the months of February and March to determine who will represent their school. School battles and subsequent semi-final battles determine which schools will be represented at the district battle in April, as a part of National School Library Month.

For more information about the Battle of the Books program at your school and how to participate, please contact your school Library Media Technology Specialist.

    Literacy Fair

Participating in a literacy fair gives students the ability to share their knowledge, presentation skills, and creativity. This could be done alongside other literacy activities (Battle of the Books and/or Boys Read, for example) or as an alternative to those activities.

This program can be introduced to all teachers and students in grades K-12 through the school Library Media program. Schools are invited to host their Literacy Fair during Celebrate Literacy Week, FL! in January or during April as part of National School Library Month.
