COMMANDER GARRETT D JONES, USN RETIRED
UNITED STATES NAVY
CDR Jones was born in Memphis TN, and also grew up in Chicago, IL and Rochester, NY. He received his commission in 1994 after graduating from the United States Naval Academy.
He served at sea onboard USS CARTER HALL (Communications Officer), USS BOONE (Navigator), USS O'BANNON (Combat Systems Officer), USS ENTERPRISE (Destroyer Squadron EIGHTEEN Staff), and USS KLAKRING (Executive Officer). He has deployed to the Mediterranean as part of Standing Naval Forces Mediterranean (SNFM), Arabian Gulf for OIF/OEF, and South America for UNITAS and Counter-Illicit Trafficking Operations.
CDR Jones's shore tours include RSO Norfolk (Combat Systems and Training/Readiness), COMSECONDFLT (Fleet Tomahawk Training and Readiness), USNAVSO/COMFOURTHFLT (Current Operations Director), Destroyer Squadron FOURTEEN (Chief Staff Officer), and Embry Riddle Navy ROTC Executive Officer. While on the staff at SECONDFLT, he led the certification of the first strike group in Tactical Tomahawk.
His education background includes a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture from the U.S. Naval Academy, a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School Monterey, and a Master of Science in National Security and Strategic Studies to include JPME Phase II from the U.S. Naval War College.
CDR Jones' decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), the Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), the Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal and various other awards. CDR Jones assumed his current duties as the Senior Naval Science Instructor at Dunedin High School in August of 2021.
