• Attendance Matters

    August 20, 2023

Dear Parents, Teachers, Staff and Community Members of Hollins High School this is Principal Robert Florio with your weekly update:

    • We started the week off on Monday with a day full of student assemblies where we went over expectations and our exacting standards of accountability and success. Our mission is to be the best public high school in the state of Florida. To accomplish that goal, we need everyone from the principal, plant operations, cafeteria, clerical, teaching staff, students, and support staff to do their best every day!
    • Our motto this year is All out – All in – All year – persistent excellence with a mindset focused on achievement and we will be the best
    • Speaking of the best, Thursday morning, we celebrated our state championship/world qualifying Robotics Team and awarded them state championship rings created specifically for our team by Herf Jones. Pictures of the ceremony on our website and attached to this communication.
    • Thank you for getting your student to school on time, dressed for success. You got to be in it to win it
      • We will start our tardy policy in earnest this week – as ninth graders and new students have familiarized themselves with our campus and know where they are headed
      • Any student late to 2nd, 3rd or 4th block will be subject to an hour detention. If the hour detention is missed, they will serve a double detention. 1-hour detentions are held on Monday and Wednesday – double detentions are on Tuesday and Thursday. A missed double detention results in ABS – or Alternative Bell Assignment – where students attend school from 1 pm to 5 pm
      • Please stress the importance of promptness/being present – two of our 5P’s of school wide expectations which are in totality:
        • Present – Prompt – Prepared – Productive - Polite
    • We appreciate when all car riders pull all the way to the end of driveway. Please note that if you are in school traffic at 7 am – your student will be late to first block which starts at 7:10 am
    • PCS Connects is an initiative to put a school issued laptop in the hands of every student. We distributed laptops to all ninth graders this week. Students in all grades should bring their laptop, fully charged to school every day. All state EOC tests will be taken utilizing student laptops
    • PM1 progress monitoring test for Reading will start Monday August 21
    • ELP starts in earnest on Monday 8/21 in the Media Center from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Students have access to content area teachers to assist with homework, tutoring and test preparation
    • Student Schedule change request forms were distributed Thursday and should be returned to guidance in the morning at lunch or after school – please note that all requests are not guarantees and there is no change of mind schedules
    • If you have not done so, please go online to Focus and fill out Clinic Card data – this is important and contains the consent for medical treatment – Thank you

Enjoy the rest of your evening surrounded by good friends and family in good health and high spirits!

    See you at the Top!
