    Ms. Blaxberg is a native Floridian who graduated from Ft. Walton Beach High School, she earned a college degree is in Biomedical Science from the University of South Florida. After graduation, Katie received her teaching certification through St Petersburg College. Each learning community deepened her interest and passion for education, eventually leading her to public service. 

    Katie served as the District Aide for the Honorable Chris Latvala during his tenure as the Education and Employment Chair for the Florida House of Representatives. During this time, the House passed landmark legislation that provided raises for teachers and supported the rights of students and parents in the classroom. In addition, with the support of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission, several school safety bills were passed to make our children safer in schools. 
     
    In addition to her work for the Florida Legislature, Katie is an active and engaged community member. Through the years, she has devoted her time to her children’s schools, Temple B’nai Israel, the Jewish Federation of Pinellas and Pasco Counties, and she created a community scholarship program for women. 
     
    Her education, professional experiences and community service are three pillars that inform her leadership style. But her agenda is driven by her “special interests,” her three children. With a child in high school, middle school and elementary school, Katie understands that each child’s educational needs are unique, and she is committed to being advocate for all students and their families as they work collectively to get those needs met, improving process and outcomes whenever possible. Ms. Blaxberg understands the importance of collaboration to achieve the vision and mission of Pinellas County Schools, which is 100% student success and welcomes insights, ideas, and feedback as she embarks on her first term as your school board member, District 5.
