Parent Update for the Week of 9/24/24

Good afternoon Osceola Middle School Families. This is your principal Derrik Craun your weekly updates.

Just a reminder parents, as Monday is a professional development day for our staff, there is no school Monday for students. Tuesday we begin our week with FAST Math PM1 testing for Ms. Hughes students and wrapping up PM1 testing with students in 8th grade Pre-Algebra testing Wednesday and Ms. Selden’s Math students testing on Thursday with makeups on Friday.  Also Wednesday is our next SAC meeting at 5:30pm followed by PTSA at 6pm in our Media Center where all parents are welcome to join.  Friday is our OMS Fundraiser “Best Day Ever” event at 10am for those who qualified. Students will be given bracelets the morning of the event.

Parents don’t forget we have free before and after school tutoring every Monday through Thursday at 8am and after school until 5pm.  For any 7th or 8th grader in Civics, we Civics tutoring sessions for students on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:10 PM to 5:00 PM with Mr. Colborn in room 4-210. These sessions are designed to provide additional support in Civics, a crucial subject that is not only tested but also required for students to advance to high school.

Last, our PBIS focus of the week is to be Active Learners and our Fun Friday Tee is college shirt day.

Parents, as we always look for ways to encourage our students to read, we need help in finding out which books kids are interested in.  Please complete the library survey on the email message to provide recommendations and we will do our best to get these books in our media center. https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=BZM8c9c5GkaGb_3ye_PH_0fDWmtXriVPgfYgkLGjsOZUMTNKNVpNNFRON0pPSlFLMFBRRkdLNTVFSS4u

OMS has a food pantry and we would like to start stocking the shelves.  All nonperishable food items are greatly appreciated.  We provide meals for families during the holiday breaks.  Donations can be dropped off in the front office in the box.  If you or anyone else needs food please contact Michelle Shepard, shepard@pcsb.org any time throughout the year for assistance.

We are going to open a clothing closet for students and families.  If you have any gently used clothes both in and out of dress code, and all sizes, we would greatly appreciate those donations.  Areas we are most in need of are Boys Shoes (sizes 8 and up), Girls Pants, Boys Large Shirts (solid color) and Boys Sweatshirts (solid in color all sizes).  We are also looking for personal hygiene products.  If you have any questions about our clothing closet, please contact Kristie King at kingkrist@pcsb.org.

Parents, please remember that we are not allowing parking on 94th Avenue in front of the school at dismissal as it is not safe to have students crossing in front of buses.  Remember, our front lot is rather small and only for students with accommodations.  Please do not part there to pick up your child as that takes away from those who really them.

For a few other important announcements, the Take Stock in Children Application window is now open. This statewide initiative offers students a pathway to college scholarships and pairs them with volunteer mentors. Qualifications include being on the approved free/reduced lunch list and proof of financial eligibility for students in grades 6-9.  More information is available on the email update.

OMS is currently selling advertising banners to promote local businesses! There are several different packages available. I’ve attached a flyer with all necessary information. Please email Shannon Fitzpatrick at fitzpatricks@pcsb.org with any questions. Thank you!

Good afternoon Osceola Middle School Families. This is your principal Derrik Craun your weekly updates.

As we begin FAST testing this week, please remind your students to bring their fully charged laptops and charging cords with them every day but especially the day that they test.  This year we will test students with their Language Arts teacher for Reading PM1 and their math teacher for PM1.  I have attached the calendar so you know which day your child tests for each of their Reading and Math assessments.

Also this week, Cheerleading tryouts will take place after school on Monday and Tuesday until 5:30pm.  Students must have all athletic paperwork completed to participate and can be picked up in our car circle at 5:30. On Wednesday, we will host our first volleyball game here vs. Tarpon Springs Middle at 5 pm but will be for the girls team only as they do not have a boys team this year.  Both boys and girls play at Carwise Middle on Monday.  Tickets for our athletic events can be purchase using the GOFAN app.
