    Parent Update for the Week of 12/16/24

    Good afternoon Osceola Middle School Families. This is your principal Derrik Craun your weekly updates.

    As we go into our final week of school before Winter Break and the last week of semester 1, just a reminder that this year we will not have Semester 1 Exams.  We will finish this week with a few standardized assessments for some students and normal instruction all week to end Semester 1.

    As we continue the 10 Days of Holidays dress theme, Monday students can wear a shirt with any holiday character.  Tuesday is wear Blue for Hanukkah, Wednesday is Grinch Day to wear a grinch shirt or green.  Thursday is Vacay Day and can wear a tropical shirt and Friday is Ugly Sweater Day.

    This week in breakfast, the OMS Leadership Club will be selling Hot Chocolate for $0.50 in the cafeteria before school.

    Thank you to our OMS families who continue to support our school. Allowing your students to participate in Spirit Nights (Astro Skate, Treasure Island Fun Center) and dining at our Spirit Night restaurants (Chick Fil-A Largo, Culver’s Seminole) truly helps support our school, students, staff and families. The proceeds from our sales not only supports our school, but also helps to donate to our students and their families in need during the holiday breaks. We wish you all a very merry and happy holiday and look forward to your support at our 2025 Spirit Nights!

    Last, our PBIS focus of the week is to be Responsible and our Fun Friday Tee is to wear an Ugly Sweater.

    Parents, please remember that we are not allowing parking on 94th Avenue in front of the school at dismissal as it is not safe to have students crossing in front of buses.  Remember, our front lot is rather small and only for students with accommodations.  Please do not park there to pick up your child as that takes away from those who really them.

    Parent Update for the Week of 12/09/24

    Good afternoon Osceola Middle School Families. This is your principal Derrik Craun your weekly updates.

    Looking at our week ahead, we continue our PM2 Reading and begin our PM2 Math assessments which students will test by ELA and Math teacher.  Each teacher testing day is listed on the calendar portion of the email update. Also this week you can support OMS by joining us Tuesday, 12/10 from 5-8pm at Culver’s Seminole. Be sure to mention OMS and a percentage of sales is donated back to our school. See attached flyer for all information. Thank you for your support!

    In athletics our boys and girls basketball both play on Tuesday and Thursday this week with our boys at Largo middle at 4:45 and girls at Largo Middle at 5:45. Our games Thursday are home vs. Oak Grove with girls starting at 4:45 and boys at 5:45.  Tickets for our athletic events can be purchase using the GOFAN app.

    This Friday December 13th is our Kids night out Movie Night.  This event is for students and will take place in our cafeteria where they will watch a festive movie from 5:30-7:30. Tickets will go on sale during lunches from the 9th to the 12th for $3...or they can purchase a ticket at the door for $5.  There will be food, snacks and drinks for sale so they may want to bring a little money.  Students can bring a chair or blanket to sit on and have fun!

    This week we also begin our 10 Days of Holidays dress days with Monday being Candy Cane Day (wear read and white stripes are okay), Tuesday is Festive Feet (wear holiday socks), Wednesday is Santa or Elf shirt day, Thursday is Mad for Plaid shirt, and Friday is Accessorize your holiday by wearing holiday bling.

    Last, our PBIS focus of the week is to be Active Learners and our Fun Friday Tee is to wear a Holiday Bling (accessories).

    8th Grade parents, Osceola Fundamental High School is inviting 8th grader students interested in applying to their school to begin registering for shadowing opportunities at OFHS starting Monday, October 28, and taking place every Monday through December 9 (excluding Thanksgiving break).

    The application deadline window for TSIC has been extended to December 15, 2024. The Take Stock in Children program is now accepting applications from students in grades 6-9.  This program offers a unique opportunity for students who aspire to attend college but face financial challenges. Participants receive a college scholarship, mentoring, and guidance from a dedicated college success coach.
