• Weekly Update for the week of March 18th

Good afternoon, Osceola Middle School Families. This is your principal Derrik Craun providing you with your weekly update. As we return from Spring Break on Monday we begin our last 9-week quarter of the school year.

Parents, in effort to help everyone have their best possible schedule next school year, we will be expanding the length of Enrichment next year so that it is the same as every other period.  Doing so provides all students the option to take an extra elective in its place which students may have missed out on otherwise.  As students already requested their top 3 electives with their counselor, students have received a survey to complete on their Focus Messenger where they can indicate their preference to take that extra elective or take an enrichment option. Students will complete this survey Monday during Enrichment if they have not done so already.  Electives include: (Band, Orchestra, Chorus, Art, Spanish, AVID, Gifted, Coding, DIT, Office Assistant, Engineering, Com Tech, Computers, and Intro to the Trades).  Please note that Yearbook, TV Production, Guitar, are considered Music Appreciation are considered Enrichment.  We cannot guarantee students get every class they want but we will do our best!

This week is a rather quiet week back. Students in Algebra 1 will take their Mock EOC assessment Tuesday after Enrichment and students in Civics will take their Mock EOC on Thursday. The purpose of these assessments is to measure their growth since December and which standards may need more focus on in the upcoming weeks leading to the end of year assessments, so it is important for students to take their time and do their best

An update on Yearbooks: orders close on March 31st. Anyone who wants to order a yearbook online will need to do so by that time frame and the link is on the email update.

Congratulations to our Orchestra students as they earned a high excellent rating at our district MPA scoring 1 superior and 2 excellent ratings in their 3 sections. Well done Mr. McDuffie and OMS Orchestra students!

The Fun Friday Tee day this week is to wear a college shirt and our PBIS Guideline for Success focus is to be Respectful.

That’s all for announcements for this week. Thank you Chief parents for your support and have a great weekend!

Weekly Update for the week of March 4th

Good afternoon, Osceola Middle School Families. This is your principal Derrik Craun providing you with your weekly update.

Parents as this next week is the last week of the third quarter already, it is important as always to check grades in focus and encourage your child to finish the quarter next week on a positive note.  As we work as a staff to be more cohesive on how we code assignments in focus, I have included a grade code chart to the email update so you know which each means and how it is weighted in the gradebook to make things easier.

Girls Flag Football tryouts will be Next week March 4th -7th after school from 4:20 to 5:45 in the gym.  Boys Flag Football will have an informational meeting on Monday (2/4) in the morning from 8:30- 9:15 with tryouts beginning Tuesday morning from 8:00 am – 9:15 am and last thru Thursday morning.  Thursday afternoon there will have a makeup try out for any students that missed a day of boys’ tryouts and that makeup goes from 4:10 pm- 5:15 pm on our PE Field.

Next week is See Something Week which we have activities planned for each day.  The calendar for the week is attached to the email update and ends with Friday everyone wearing a Green shirt where a printed green shirt is okay to show support that we will all Say Something if we see something that is not right. Thursday will be an OMS Spirit Night at Sky Zone from 4-8pm where our school receives a portion of the proceeds of our students’ admission which is at a discounted price.

Thank you to those who are participating in the OMS PTSA Fundraiser for the Papa John’s Discount Cards.  This sale ends March 4th with prizes for students who participate.  Students are to turn in forms to the grade level offices this week.

An update on Yearbooks: orders close on March 31st. Anyone who wants to order a yearbook online will need to do so by that time frame and the link is on the email update.

Good luck to our Orchestra students as their annual MPA is taking place this afternoon at 3:00 at Palm Harbor University High.  They have worked so hard all year in preparing for this event and I know they will do great!

Pinellas County Schools offers a wide variety of summer camps at no charge to parents. Please note: The camps are designed for various grade levels and have specific days and times. When you choose a camp, the grade level is the grade level your child will be in next school year (2024-2025), not the current school year. Transportation is not available for our Summer Camps (with the exception of the Ignite Arts Camp).

    • Applications for summer camps will close tomorrow, Sunday, February 25th. A second application period may open later in the spring if some camps are not full. Applications are not first come, first served. Families may apply anytime during the two-week window.
    • Families will be notified via email during the week of March 4th through March 8th if they have received a reserved seat in the camp(s) they requested. Seats in some camps are limited, so thank you for understanding if you do not receive an invite. The district continues to offer more camps each summer to accommodate as many families as possible.

The Fun Friday Tee day this week is to wear a green shirt where print is okay as long as it is green and our PBIS Guideline for Success focus is to be Responsible.
